Terms of Use
Please read these terms regarding usage limits, disclaimers, and limitation of liability before using CleanSlate.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using CleanSlate, a client-side metadata scrubbing utility provided by Octobridge, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please discontinue use of the application.
2. Disclaimer of Warranties (“As-Is” Service)
CleanSlate is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
No Guarantee of Complete Anonymity
While CleanSlate is engineered to strip known standard metadata containers (such as EXIF, GPS IFDs, IPTC, XMP, PDF Info dictionaries, ID3 tags, and ISOBMFF atoms), file formats and proprietary camera or software vendors may embed identifying information in non-standard binary structures, steganographic watermarks, or visible pixel/audio/document content itself. You remain solely responsible for verifying that your scrubbed files meet your privacy, operational security, or legal requirements before sharing them.
Keep Original Backups
Because binary metadata removal modifies file structure in your browser memory, you should always retain a backup copy of your original files before using the scrubbed output.
3. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Octobridge, its developers, and contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages—including but not limited to data loss, file corruption, unintended disclosure of metadata or personal information, loss of profits, or business interruption—arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, CleanSlate.
4. Usage Limits & Acceptable Use
CleanSlate runs locally in your browser for interactive file scrubbing. To ensure service availability and prevent abuse, you agree to the following usage limits:
Client Device & Browser Memory Limits
Because files are processed in-memory inside your browser tab using JavaScript typed arrays, the maximum file size you can scrub depends on your device’s available RAM and browser limits.
Fair Use of Edge Endpoints & Support Form
You may not subject the website, its Cloudflare Worker endpoints, or the Contact & Support endpoint to excessive automated request floods, denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, spam submissions, or unlawful activity. Automated bots submitting bug reports must do so at reasonable rates.
Lawful Use Only
You agree to use CleanSlate only with files you own or are authorized to modify, and not to use the tool to violate applicable laws, court orders, or third-party intellectual property rights.
5. Changes to These Terms
Octobridge reserves the right to update or modify these Terms of Use at any time. Updates will be reflected on this page along with the revised effective date. If you have questions regarding these terms, please contact us via our Contact Page.
